  1. What? Lasseter is going to talk about his close personal friend Hay-o Miyazaki?

Oooo. I am so going to record the Japanese-language version of 耳をすませば. Possibly also 隣のトトロ and ポンポコ. That’s really cool that they’re broadcasting in both languages.

  2. Never mind. I don’t get TCM. Dammit.

  3. Matt said,

    Well, crap.

I didn’t realize TCM was a premium channel. I don’t get it either. I must have confused it with AMC.

    Apologies.

  4. George said,

I get TCM. Which ones do you want me to record. Of course how do I then transfer them to you is another question–VHS?

  5. Thanks for the offer!

As to what to record, the obvious answers for me are the ones that aren’t out on DVD. That means Whisper of the Heart (my very favorite Ghibli movie), Ponpoko (very entertaining) and Totoro (the only Ghibli movie I haven’t ever seen). I have all the other ones on DVD except for Only Yesterday, but I don’t remember being very impressed with that one.

VHS? Who even owns a VCR anymore? I certainly don’t. I assume you’ll be getting this onto your DVR (Tivo?)…is there some program you can download that’ll get the MPEG file off the DVR? ReplayTV has something similar.

  6. PS – Not that you didn’t know this already, but the Japanese-language ones they play in the middle of the night are preferable. Onegai shimasu!

  7. Hey George…I recently upgraded to Comcast Digital, and now I have TCM, so I’ll be taking care of recording the ones I want myself. Thanks so much for the offer, though!

  8. [...] Why? Well, for a number of reasons. I had just suspended my DirecTV service until next season(because the football season is over, and without NFL Sunday Ticket, DirecTV is worthless, and they know it), and I’d been getting frustrated with the lack of a second tuner on my ReplayTV. Also, after the TCM debacle*, I wanted to get a couple more channels and the on-demand programming feature that comes with getting digital cable and a box. So I did, and in the process hiked up my already-exorbitant cable bill another 20 bucks. But hey, you only live once, right? [...]
